Posted

A Warsaw man was seriously injured in an accident Saturday night that knocked out power to a large portion of Kosciusko County.

Miguel Y. Ramirez, 38, Old Ind. 15, hit a utility pole on Ind. 15, near CR 350N, Warsaw, head-on at 11:18 p.m.

Police said Ramirez was apparently driving north on Ind. 15 when he missed a curve and went off the road. The car struck the pole head-on, breaking it off at the top.

A witness told police Ramirez's car was going at a high rate of speed and was weaving from the curb to the center line. A blood- alcohol test revealed Ramirez's level at .218 percent, over twice the legal limit. Police reported there were no skid marks at the scene.

Ramirez was trapped in his car at the scene and Warsaw Fire Department and EMS extricated him. He was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, then airlifted to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He is listed in fair condition with facial and leg injuries.

Police reported that the electricity was out from Warsaw to the North Webster area while the pole was being repaired.
