A Warsaw man was critically injured Tuesday afternoon after crashing his mo-ped into a passing SUV on the city’s west-side.
Emergency personnel were called just before 4:30 p.m. to Fox Farm Road, just south of Southside Drive, where a mo-ped had slammed into a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Crews arrived to find the mo-ped’s operator - 48-year-old Douglas A. Craig of 204 S. Hunters Ridge, Warsaw - with a severe head injury nearby.
Craig was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne in critical condition. No update on his condition was available as of press time.
According to the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, Craig had come out of a driveway on Fox Farm Road and was stopped when he was somehow “flung forward” and slammed into the side of the southbound 1999 Trailblazer, driven by Leanna L. Brand, 39, of Warsaw.
Craig was not wearing a helmet, officials said. Investigators said they believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash, though they are awaiting a state-mandated toxicology report from Craig.
