A Warsaw man is in critical condition this morning after jumping from a moving vehicle south of Nappanee. Jerry Lee Charles Belcher, 21, Warsaw, was airlifted after jumping from a moving vehicle on CR 800W, just south of CR 850N, around 5:40 a.m. today. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel from Nappanee responded after receiving a 911 call of a subject injured after he jumped from a vehicle. Officers arrived and immediately located Belcher, who was unconscious and suffered from extensive head injuries. Nappanee EMS immediately requested Med-Flight air ambulance to transport Belcher from the scene to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Belcher had been a passenger in a Dodge Ram Quad Cab pickup truck driven by his father, Johnny L. Belcher, 41, Warsaw. As they were traveling to work, both men had entered into a verbal argument that became steadily intense. While traveling northbound on CR 800W, Jerry Belcher suddenly opened the front passenger door of the pickup truck and jumped from the vehicle. His father stopped the truck and went back to locate his son near the ditch. Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigators stated there was a third individual located in the second row of the seat inside the pickup truck that confirmed the same scenario of events. Kosciusko County FACT members stated the incident is still under investigation. Jerry Belcher is listed in critical condition at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
