After staying holed up in his house for about 30 minutes Sunday night, a Warsaw man was taken into custody by police after the man's wife called 911 from a neighbor's house.
John William Kenney, 49, of 1504 E. Market St., Warsaw, allegedly held a gun to his wife's head prior to the standoff with police. He is being held without bond in the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of criminal recklessness and criminal confinement, both felonies.
Tracy L. Bloom Kenney called police from a neighbor's residence after fleeing the home shortly before 10 p.m.
The two reportedly were involved in an argument when Kenney allegedly made his wife lie on a bed and held a gun to her head. A neighbor told police a gunshot was heard from inside the Kenney home prior to police arriving on the scene.
Police set up a perimeter around the house and were on the scene for about five minutes when a man was seen walking through the home and looking out a kitchen window. A muffled gunshot was then heard by police.
Another 30 minutes elapsed, with police attempting to make contact with Kenney. He eventually came out onto the porch of the home and was taken into custody.
According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Mrs. Kenney said she twice heard a "clicking" sound as she was running out of the house and believes that sound was her husband attempting to fire a gun at her.
Police confiscated a shotgun from the home but were unable to locate two handguns believed used during the incident. The gunshot heard while police were outside the residence is believed to have been fired into a rolltop desk, where it appeared a shotgun blast was directed.
