A Warsaw man is being held for shooting his wife Saturday evening. Brandon J. Bellamy, 37, of 1103 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, was arrested for battery causing serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm as a violent felon. Around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the North Detroit Street home for a 911 call of a woman who had been shot, according to a press release from Warsaw Police Department. WPD and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officers arrived to find a 29-year-old female shot in the neck. Responding officers were initially told that the shooting was self-inflicted and accidental, but after further investigation and questioning, it was determined that Bellamy shot the victim. The investigation showed that Bellamy was intoxicated and that both parties had been arguing for quite some time. Bellamy indicated that he was going to drive away and grabbed his jacket. Bellamy also grabbed a .40 cal. handgun. When the female attempted to stop him from leaving, Bellamy raised the gun and fired a shot. Bellamy is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $15,250 bond. Further investigation into Bellamy’s criminal background produced an additional felony charge of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. WPD was assisted by the KCSD, Winona Lake Police Department, Kosciusko Major Crimes unit, Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s office and Lutheran EMS Kosciusko.
