Warsaw Man Arrested for Selling Officers Fake Drug

Posted
A Warsaw man was arrested Tuesday morning by undercover Sheriff’s deputies after attempting to sell a fake drug to officers.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force officers, along with a Warsaw Police Department K9 unit, arrested Shawn Douglas Elder, 19, Warsaw, at approximately 10:18 a.m.  Tuesday on a preliminary charge of felony dealing in a look-a-like substance.
Deputies began an investigation recently and then established an undercover purchase with Elder Tuesday morning of what was represented as morphine. Elder was taken into custody shortly afterward and it was confirmed that the product was not morphine.
Indiana law stipulates that the intent to sell a substance under the guise of an illegal drug is a criminal offense. Elder was transported to the Kosciusko County Jail and currently has a bond set at $5,000.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force was also assisted by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
