Posted
Warsaw police apprehended a man who ran from them and hid on an island on Winona Lake.

Damian T. Hoskins, 20, of 216 S. Bronson St., Warsaw, was arrested and preliminarily charged with resisting/fleeing law enforcement, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to appear. Bond was set at $1,000.

WPD Public Information Officer Kip Shuter said the investigation showed Hoskins’ vehicle struck another vehicle at the intersection of Winona Avenue and Detroit Street, Warsaw. Afterward, Hoskins  told the passenger in the vehicle, “I have a warrant. Love you. Bye,” then took off running.

A WPD officer saw Hoskins running near Lakeview Middle School on East Smith Street.

Once Hoskins saw the officer, he jumped into the channel and swam across to an island on Winona Lake.

WPD, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police surrounded the island and Hoskins was taken into custody and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:08 p.m.

Hoskins also was cited for driving while suspended and following too closely.
