Warsaw Man Arrested After Attempting to Flee Accident

Posted
A Warsaw man was arrested this morning after attempting to flee the scene of a personal property accident.
According to a Warsaw Police Department crash report, dispatch received a call around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on a property damage accident which said that one of the vehicles was attempting to flee the scene and the other driver was following it.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with one of the drivers, Jeremy A. Blackburn, 27, East Timberline Circle North, Warsaw, and his passenger. They both said they were exiting the Economy Inn parking lot on Lake City Highway in Warsaw and traveled southeast into the median and were waiting for traffic to clear so they could make a left turn onto the eastbound lane of Lake City Highway.
As they were sitting, a red pickup truck was traveling east on Lake City Highway, turned into the median, crossing left of center, and struck Blackburn’s vehicle, he told police. Officers noted damage to the paint, bumper and fender, and also determined that the truck was driven by Richard D. Hyde, 41, East Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw.
After striking Blackburn’s vehicle, Hyde had attempted to leave the scene and proceeded northwest into the Economy Inn parking lot. Blackburn followed Hyde and both vehicles eventually came to a stop in a nearby alley after Blackburn had blocked Hyde’s path of travel. Hyde then attempted to drive up and over a rock way, causing damage to the wall and his vehicle.
Additional officers arrived and apprehended Hyde, who reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. His BAC was found to be at .10 percent.
Hyde was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail early this morning on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal property accident and resisting law enforcement. His bond was set at $550.
