Warsaw Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Man With BB GunA Warsaw man was arrested last week after allegedly attacking another man and shooting him in the head with a BB gun.

Carlos Arnold Pagan Ortiz, 34, of 716 W. Center St., Apt. B, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday for intimidation with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon. His preliminary bond was set at $10,000 surety and $1,000 cash.

A probable cause affidavit filed  Thursday lists charges of battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony, and intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony.

On Tuesday, Warsaw Police officer Miles Reichard responded to an apparent battery at Service Liquors. He found a man with blood and bruises on his face. A second man also was present.

The victim told Reichard he was sitting outside of the liquor store near city hall when a man – later identified as Pagan Ortiz – started punching and kicking him.

He told police he thought there may have been another person present, and then went to Service Liquor to call police.

WPD Det. Jeffrey Ticknor obtained surveillance video of the area and saw the victim and the second man sitting next to each other, and two other men and a woman present.

The police report says the video showed Pagan Ortiz punching and slapping the victim. Pagan Ortiz then pulled a black handgun out of his waistband and shot the victim two times in the head at close range. He walked off for about two minutes and then returned and punched, slapped and kicked the victim.

Ticknor identified the woman as Pagan Ortiz’s girlfriend. When police found Pagan Ortiz, he said he knew why the officer was there, according to court documents.

Pagan Ortiz admitted to Ticknor that he grabbed the BB gun from his waistband to intimidate the victim. He wanted to teach him a lesson, court documents state.

Pagan Ortiz admitted he knew “he did wrong,” according to court documents.
