Warsaw Man Arrested After Allegedly Battering OfficersA Warsaw man was arrested earlier this week after allegedly punching, kicking and attempting to spit on police officers.
Kyle Richard Spaulding, 31, of 3750 Lake City Hwy., #8, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:52 p.m. Tuesday for battery on law enforcement. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.
Court documents filed Wednesday list the charges against him as two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, level 6 felonies.
On Monday, Warsaw Police officer Jacob D. Metzger responded to a domestic dispute at 3750 Lake City Hwy., Warsaw. He spoke with a man who said his sons, including Kyle Spaulding, were arguing and he was afraid they were going to start fighting. He said Spaulding had drunk a large amount of alcohol and was making suicidal comments.
Metzger noticed Spaulding had a strong odor of alcohol, his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, he had poor balance and rapid mood changes. Officers obtained a breath sample from Spaulding and his breath alcohol content tested at .375, according to court documents.
Winona Lake Police officer David Swain and WPD officer Ross Minear arrived to assist. While dealing with Spaulding, his condition deteriorated and he could not stand or speak in sentences.
Medical technicians arrived to take Spaulding to the hospital for treatment. While in the ambulance, Spaulding became aggressive and punched Swain in the hand with a closed fist. At Kosciusko Community Hospital, he attempted to spit on officers and kicked Minear in the lower back.
