Warsaw Housing Authority and Housing Opportunities of Warsaw moved its offices from Warsaw to Milford today.
The offices had been in Warsaw for the past 11 years.
Services will no longer be provided out of the South Union Street facility, and are being moved to 109 E. Catherine St., behind the Milford Public Library.
WHA and HOW will open for business Wednesday at its new Milford location.
WHA and HOW had been renting the South Buffalo Street facility from Woodward Realty.
The Milford facility, that will be shared by HOW and WHA, was previously vacant for a few years.
Besides voucher program services, there will be classes for clients held in which HOW will provide home energy impact classes. WHA will have family self-sufficiency classes.
“The reason why this move happened is because Housing on Urban Development cut administration money down to 78 percent of what we used to receive, so this is to keep our local office for these voucher programs,” said Pam Kennedy, WHA executive director.
WHA provides the section eight rental assistance housing voucher program, and will continue to manage Warsaw’s voucher program, Kosciusko County’s voucher program, and now Goshen’s voucher program, out of the Milford office.
HOW will continue to serve Kosciusko County with home rehabilitation services and Day of Caring.
This year’s Day of Caring is Aug. 17, when homes in Kosciusko County will be improved.
Kennedy said WHA and HOW felt welcomed by the Milford community.
WHA will have an office one day a week at Warsaw City Hall for city of Warsaw housing voucher holders so those who do not have transportation to Milford can be served.
It will be announced in the next couple of weeks which day the voucher program services will be offered at city hall.
It has already been coordinated with Kosciusko Area Bus Service for seniors to receive free rides to the housing authority in Milford from Warsaw.
WHA will distribute vouchers for KABS for those who must come to housing appointments in Milford.
WHA and HOW employ seven employees. Plans are to hire three employees by the end of this year. There are two employees needed to work on the housing voucher program, and a receptionist.
An open house has been planned at the Milford location, but a date and time has not yet been scheduled.
WHA and HOW will keep the same number at its Milford facility and that is 574-269-7641.
