Warsaw's Committee to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Inc. will hold its 10th annual program at Center Lake Pavilion Monday.
The theme for the program, "Unity in the Community: Keeping Diversity Alive," celebrates the growing multiculturalism in Kosciusko County.
Scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m., the program will feature awards, musical entertainment and lunch for a suggested donation of $5. Closing is expected to take place before 1 p.m.
This year's program will include four speakers: Dr. Jennifer Brumfield, assistant principal at Warsaw Community High School; Sandy Rader, Kosciusko Community Hospital; Dr. Ronald Manahan, president of Grace College & Seminary; and Kosciusko County prosecutor David Kolbe.
The speakers will describe what their area of business or the community is doing to promote "unity in the community."
The program is open to the public, and everyone is welcome. Its purpose is not only to commemorate the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but also to note the positive strides forward that have been made so far by minorities in Kosciusko County in business, church, education and government. It also seeks to find opportunities to promote diversity in all areas of community life.
Joe Banks, chairman of the Committee to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Inc., said, "Building a community is hard work. It is the constructive process that persists in the face of devastating forces of fear and hatred. All of us fear what is unknown and different.
"... Remember, building bridges is more risky than building walls, but it is much more fun!"
