Warsaw Hires 2 New Police Officers

Posted

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins swore in two new Warsaw police officers at the Board of Works meeting Friday.

Brandon Zartman, 24, and Allen Danko, 24, took the oath of office.

Dan Miller asked to run a sewer line to property owned by Silver Fox Development just outside the city limits. The board needs to look into possible annexation to approve this. The issue was tabled.

Zimmer requested permission to install a fiber optic line between their plant downtown and the facility in Boggs Industrial Park. The line would be approximately two miles.

Wiggins suggested bringing this matter before city council at Monday's meeting to see if there is any kind of fee involved for Zimmer to put in their own line.

The Fire Department told the board that fire hydrants for the Warsaw Coil water line project would cost the city approximately $3,000. The Fire Department would like fire hydrants every 500 feet, which would mean approximately three hydrants for that project. Indiana-American Water Co. would pay the installation and upsizing of the water line if the city pays for the material for the hydrants.

The recommendation of fire chief Matt Warren was for the city not to pay for the extra hydrants, and the board denied paying for the hydrants.

In other business:

• City planner Jeff Noffsinger introduced a letter of credit by Wal-Mart that will expire Jan. 11, 2002. This was approved.

• The board approved four change orders concerning the Logan Street project, requested by street superintendent Lacy Francis.

• The board approved write-offs of accounts for sewage for three customers who have filed bankruptcy. They also approved the special claims and regular claims and a travel request of Mike Foster, the new radio operator, to attend a basic communications meeting.
