Artwork by 2014 Warsaw Community High School graduate Megan Smith will be included in a special exhibit in Washington, D.C., according to art teacher Andy Tomasik.
Smith’s work, “Coil Pot,” will be on display at The U.S. Department of Education as part of “Art.Write.Now.DC,” a special exhibition of National Award-winning work from the 2014 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This year, 56 works of art and “The Best Teen Writing of 2014” will be displayed in the lobby of their main building in Washington, D.C., according to a letter to Tomasik from Courtney Buckland, associate manager, communications and external relations, The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.
“Our colleagues at The Department of Education are delighted to host this yearlong exhibition and we are organizing a special day of celebratory events. On Friday, Sept. 19, please join us in Washington, D.C., for a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony,” the letter states.
The ceremony will be at The Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Building, across from the National Air & Space Museum, 400 Maryland Ave. S.W., Washington, D.C. It is from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 19.
“We are honored to present Megan’s art as an example of the very best creative work by our nation’s emerging young artists,” it also states.
Smith’s piece also was featured in a full-page photo in the National Exhibit catalog book, Tomasik said.
Smith is now at college at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis.
