LEESBURG – Two days after winning the Northern Lakes Conference championship, Warsaw's varsity boys golf team added another 18-hole tournament victory to its resume Monday. With four players finishing among the top eight individuals, the second-ranked Tigers shot a 295 and won the first-annual Bob Turner Classic at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club. Canterbury, led by match medalist Patrick O'Reilly's 70, finished second with a four-person score of 300, while eighth-ranked Homestead shot 306. Triton finished fourth with a 311, followed in the nine-team field by Penn (316), Carroll (319), a second team from Warsaw (334), NorthWood (341) and Wawasee (358). Turner coached the boys and girls teams at Warsaw for a number of years. Current Warsaw coach Ben Barkey, now in his ninth year with the Tigers, played for Turner. Warsaw was led Monday by Tyler Ostrom and Jon Schram, who each shot 73 and finished in a three-way tie for second place with Homestead's Jon Finley. Tim Ahlersmeyer shot 74 for the Tigers and finished in a two-way tie for fifth, while Bennett Hollar shot 75 and finished in a three-way tie for eighth place and Eric Tandy finished in an 11th-place tie with a 77. Warsaw's second team consisted of Viraj Gokhale (79), Lance Lybarger (82), Simon Stone (84), Evan Cultice (88) and Justin Self (89). Will Petro (89) and Jared Essig (91) competed as individuals for the Tigers. Quentyn Carpenter, Ryan Rapp and Chandler Slone all shot 77 for the Triton Trojans, while Taran Kennedy and Griffyn Carpenter finshed with 80 and 82, respectively. For Wawasee, Ben Jackson led the way with an 85, while Luke Jackson and Tyler Hare both shot 90. Derek Zurcher and Josh Matti finished with a 93 and 98, respectively. Warsaw is in action again Wednesday when it hosts Tippecanoe Valley and Bishop Dwenger at Stonehenge, while Wawasee hosts Columbia City today at South Shore and Triton is at Sprig O'Mint to play Bremen and Valley.
