Per Coach Bart Curtis:
On Plymouth — We're going to need to play awfully well. (The Rockies are) an enigma. Here's the deal: They're gonna come out Friday and play their best game. They're not going to turn the ball over. They're going to make every play because you know that's how they play against Warsaw. The record means zero, nothing, nada. The record is not the least bit indicative of who they are ... They could have beat Mishawaka (losing 20-13 on the road in Week 3). Their last play of the game ended on the 1-yard line. They played NorthWood tough. That was a one-score game. They played Tippecanoe Valley tough (falling 22-14 on the road in Week 1).
D — I was pleased with our defensive play. We missed a few tackles, but I think we’re getting better.
On Goshen game — They're young, we're experienced. I was hoping that our kids would treat this very business-like, and I think for the most part they did … We had the ball eight times and scored on seven. So there's not a whole lot to gripe about … We can’t put ourselves in situations where when we want to run perimeter plays we get 10-yard holding penalties. That’s going to hurt us down the road. We either go double tights or we figure out something because we are struggling a little bit out there on the perimeter.

Woodlan (3-3) at Tippecanoe Valley (5-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m., Smith-Bibler Memorial Field, Akron

Series: Tippecanoe Valley 1-0

Last Outing: Woodlan lost to Jay County 52-28, Tippecanoe Valley defeated Jimtown 17-15

John Harrell’s prediction: Tippecanoe Valley 38-10

Last Meeting: Oct. 25, 2024, Tippecanoe Valley 51-25 (sectional)

About Woodlan: The Warriors head to Akron on Friday night looking to break out of a bit of a funk, as the team has lost three of its last four games coming in. Most recently, Woodlan fell 52-28 last Friday, the second time in three games that the defense gave up 40 points or more. Quarterback Griffin Clear completed just eight of his 23 passes, but did throw for 183 yards and three touchdowns. The junior now has nine touchdown passes to seven interceptions this season, throwing for just under 800 yards. His top receiver is Liam Hertig, who has hauled in 17 passes for 275 yards and three scores. Senior Ashtin Jacquay serves as the team’s leading rusher, heading into Friday night with 522 yards on 46 carries and six scores this season, including 164 yards last week. Noah Ames and Griffin Clear are both in triple digits rushing this season as well.

About Tippecanoe Valley: The Vikings return home on Friday night for the first time since Week 3 with sole possession of first place in the Indiana Northern State Conference after a thrilling 17-15 win over Jimtown last week. The Vikings led 11-0 at halftime before the Jimmies stormed back to take a lead in the third quarter. After an early fourth-quarter touchdown by quarterback Hunter Randall, the Viking defense came up with multiple big stops over the course of the rest of the game to hold on to the victory. The Jimmies had a chance to kick a game-winning field goal in the final seconds, but a bad snap prevented it from ever going up. Hunter Paxton led the team in rushing, totalling 90 yards on 19 carries. Owen Omondi did a little bit of everything for his team, scoring a 43-yard rushing touchdown, kicking a 28-yard field goal and making five tackles on defense. Colton Blackburn recovered a fumble in the red zone that turned into a touchdown a few plays later. Randall finished his night having completed three passes for 27 yards and the rushing touchdown.

Tippecanoe Valley head coach Steve Moriarty:

On last week – When you play in close games like that, it helps you prepare for the close games you’re expecting to play the rest of the season. On one hand we won, but I also feel like we have a lot to clean up, so on the other it’s like imagining what it could be like if we got rid of the penalties and the turnovers. It’s motivating.

On Omondi – He is just a player that is so special. You can look at all the stats but I think the best aspect of his game is his leadership. It’s like having a coach on the field. He expects the most out of his guys and is just a great kid.

On Woodlan – We’ve been solid on defense all year long, especially against the run. But we haven’t had to face a team like this that constantly passes. Making sure we’re all on the same page is a top priority. Communication is key. We’ll have to play well to win. We can’t fall asleep or take any plays off.

Goshen (2-4, 1-3) at Wawasee (0-6, 0-4)
When: Friday, Warrior Stadium, Syracuse.
Series (last 40 years): Goshen, 26-15.

About Wawasee: Mark Osmialowski’s 4A Warriors lost 19-13 at NorthWood in Week 6 …  Wawasee led 7-3 at halftime … The Panthers posted two touchdowns, an extra point and a field goal in the second half … The Warriors were stopped on fourth-and-goal in the latter moments of the game … Johnny Zachary was 11-of-24 passing for 179 yards and one TD — a 27-yarder to Luke Nettrouer in the second quarter … Nettrouer caught three passes for 65 yards, Jaylen Lowery three for 61 and Kaden Andrew five for 53 … Andrew (42) was the rushing yardage leader … Nettrouer returned a punt 79 yards for a TD … Total tackle leaders were Max Pena (10), Western Haab (9), Jaxon Brown (6), Max McKibben (6) and Dirks Miller (6) … Luke Lehman recovered a fumble  … On the season, Zachary is 57-of-126 passing for three TD’s with eight interceptions … Rushing yardage leaders are Andrew (221 with two TD’s), McKibben (136) and J’Ceon Evans (62) … Receiving yardage leaders are Lowery (340 with one TD), Nettrouer (198 with one TD), Andrew (139 with one TD) and Lehman (93) … Total tackle leaders are Haab (45), McKibben (42), Pena (40), Brown (29), Aidan Beer (26) and Lehman (24) … Lowery (2), Brown (1), Lehman (1) and Keny’n Burney (1) have fumble recoveries … Mason Hatfield has an interception … The last time Goshen came to Syracuse, the Warriors won 36-7 … Wawasee posts a 12.2 offensive average and 39.3 defensive average.
Per Coach Mark Osmialowski:
On Goshen — Coach Heckman is instilling a culture and a mindset. It might not have shown up in wins and losses. They are a good team. They have guys that compete. They want to play hard. He's doing a great job with those boys … I told our boys on (last) Friday night, we have to go into this game and treat it like it's Warsaw, like it's NorthWood, like it's any other team. It doesn't matter their record. We have to go into it with a great week of preparation and come out with that same intensity we came out with Friday night. If we do that, I think we'll be in a good spot.
Offensive balance — When it comes to balance, we're trying to be balanced in what the defense gives us. If we're able to hit some throws on them, we want to be able to hit some throws on them. But as soon as they tighten up their coverage, we want to be able to run on them. We don't really look to try to be 50-50 run-pass. We just try to stay balanced in what the defense has given us.
On NorthWood game — We had some ‘red zone’ opportunities we didn't capitalize on. At the very worst, we're trying to get some field goals in those spots, but we couldn't capitalize … The boys played extremely hard. It’s definitely a game where we can definitely build off of … We did a lot better job protecting the football (with a lost fumble and interception), but one was in the ‘red zone.’ It was on a strip sack where they were able to recover and get a pretty good gain. You take that one away, we’re at least kicking a field goal in that situation.

Whitko (0-6, 0-5 TRC) at Manchester (2-4, 1-3 TRC)

When: Friday, 7 p.m., Burk Field, North Manchester

Series: Whitko 25-19

Last Outing: Whitko lost to Lewis Cass 39-6, Manchester defeated Southwood 34-24

John Harrell’s prediction: Manchester 38-21

Last Meeting: Oct. 3, 2025, Manchester 42-0

Last Whitko win: Oct. 2, 2020, 20-14

About Manchester: The Squires snapped a two-game skid last Friday night and picked up their first Three Rivers Conference win of the season by defeating Southwood 34-24 at home. After scoring just seven points in the first half, the Manchester offense exploded with 27 in the second. The team had two incredible rushing performances, led by a career day for Caden Young. The senior picked up 173 yards on just 12 carries, finding the end zone three times. Hunter Hamilton was even more efficient, rushing for 134 yards on just five carries, good enough for just under 27 yards a touch. He also found the end zone. The team’s fifth score came from sophomore Pablo Santoyo, who scored from two-yards out on his only carry of the game. Jackson Anguilm led the team with 14 tackles, one for a loss. Layne Showalter and Braxton Westendorf each had an interception.

Whitko head coach Thomas Tyree:

On Quinones’ big game: “He's been a good player for us. I'm not a person that believes freshman should be playing, let alone play both ways. But just because we just don't have the bodies, he had to play. He got it rolling early on, and has some nice runs. And then, we kind of just stuck with the running game a little bit the best we could. (Lewis Cass) did some things that we kind of knew was coming, and so as long as we did what we were supposed to do, things went well. It wasn't that much of a surprise. It was more so of just us having to execute. Um, the bigger, like he could have had some other ones if he had, had he followed his blocks. So we kind of got on him a little bit about that, coached him up. And he started following his blocks. He started really gashing them. So that was nice to see, just kids taking the coaching and taking the steps moving forward.”

On Manchester being a running team: “I mean, that helps as long as the clock is rolling. They've had to play a freshman at quarterback, and I'm sure they don't really want to, because of injuries. I think this is a good matchup for us. I'm not saying that they're an easy team. But compared to some of the other teams that we play, this is definitely a much better opponent for us.

Manchester head coach Brian Enyeart:

On last week – We were able to make a couple of big plays. They controlled the clock pretty well but we took advantage of some long scores. Southwood played a great game. We definitely have more to work on but I was really proud of our rushing attack.

On his team’s mentality – They did not stop to hang their heads. They kept on fighting. It was nice to see them finally get fired up and ticked off. I hope that could be a turning point for this group but you have to hope it stays that way.

On Whitko – We haven’t proven this year that we can come in and dominate anybody, but we can and we need to have that attitude. Whitko has some guys that they’ve had to move around but they can make some big plays too. We need the mentality that we are not going to let them do that. I’d like to see this group take the last 10 minutes of last week and build on it.

About Caston: Chris Ulerick’s IFCA 1A vote-getting Comets won 42-7 at Culver Community in Week 6 … Logan Mollenkopf completed 4-of-5 passes for 81 yards … Rushing yardage leaders were Mollenkopf (143 with two TD’s), London Herd (32 with one TD) and Bronson Howard (26) … Receiving yardage leaders were Ashton Bowyer (58) and Landen Rigney (23) … On the season, Mollenkopf is 11-of-23 passing for 253 yards and one TD with three interceptions … Rushing yardage leaders are Bowyer (346 with six TD’s), Mollenkopf (276 with nine TD’s), Herd (246 with three TD’s), Rigney (246 with four TD’s) and Tucker Woolever (134 with two TD’s) … Receiving yardage leaders are Rigney (136) and Bowyer (76 with one TD) … Total tackle leaders are Bowyer (34), Herd (24), Woolever (19), Mollenkopf (18), Parker Zimpleman (18) and Brayden Unger (18) … Caston performs with a 37.3 offensive average and 12.7 defensive average.
Per Coach Andy Barker:
On Caston — They're one of the bigger teams (especially on the line), if not the biggest team we'll play … They’ve been down for a very long time (going 21-113 from 2013-25). Caston was a heck of a program for a while and they hit hard … They've taken their lumps. They’ve rebuilt the program … That being said, they don't move like North Judson. There's some opportunities there to compete as long as the boys don't look too much at the don't look too much at the records.
The Process — I told the boys, if we just take care of our business and don’t give them anything extra, we could compete in any game … It will continue to be the theme of trying to play cleaner football. Because we’re young and inexperienced, we’re making a lot of rookie mistakes. If we can clean that up, it will show that we’re making progress … Part of this process is the fact that you are going to make these mistakes, and I'm not mad at you for making them. We just have to start to clean them up … We’ve had one game this year where the other team had more penalty yards than we did and that was South Central.
On North Judson game — The score obviously did not look very good there at the end. For the first quarter and a half it was only 7-0. We were going toe-to-toe with the No. 3-ranked team in the state … (after a bad snap on a punt and interception that set up North Judson scores), all of a sudden it’s 21-0 and that snowball starts to roll.
