Warsaw Gets Its Moment Of Fame

Posted

Warsaw received five minutes of national attention today when the city was showcased on CBS's "The Early Show."

In a section titled "Tour My Town," a CBS news crew visited Warsaw's local businesses, including DePuy, Little Crow Foods, Da-Lite Screen and Dig's Diner.

The broadcast focused on the success of Warsaw's economy in a time when "so many other small towns are struggling."

According to Russ Mitchell, CBS anchorman, the city can boast of being the "orthopedic capital of the world," as well as the projection screen and Co-Co Wheats capitals of the world.

An interview with William "Dig" DeGaetano showcased the downtown Dig's Diner, 114 N. Buffalo St., which has been in Warsaw for nearly 20 years.

"They knew to come to Warsaw and come to Dig's to try the chili," DeGaetano said of the broadcast. "It must have been my charming personality."

He said the interview process took approximately a half an hour to record, and the news crew ate lunch afterwards.

"They asked me why people come in here, and I told them I like to blow people (expletive) no matter who they are. Young or old, I'll still give someone a hard time.

"They asked me what the FCC would think about me saying s***, and I told them to go across the street and see my church, the FCC, First Christian Church, and see what they had to say."

Though DeGaetano's interview took up a great deal of today's "Tour My Town," the portion containing the mild expletive was apparently cut from the broadcast.

Officials from DePuy, Da-Lite and Little Crow were unavailable for comment.
