Have some Vegas-style fun without leaving Warsaw and support Warsaw Schools all at the same time.
The Warsaw Education Foundation is holding its first annual Red Apple Raffle Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Maple Leaf Grille.
"It's Veas-style fun night with casino games. Attendees can compete to win chips and then use the chips to win raffle prizes, donated by local companies and people," said Tricia Rice, Red Apple Raffle committee chairperson.
No gambling will be offered. Poker chips take the place of actual money. WEF will raise money from the fundraiser through ticket sales. All proceeds from the event go to pay for grant requests to WEF from Warsaw schools and teachers, according to Rice.
"It's something we feel very strongly about," she said. With cuts from the state to schools, Rice said grants are important for schools.
The Red Apple Raffle Vegas-style night is something fun and different to help raise money for the grants for Warsaw. "We're really trying something new," she said.
Attendees will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Rice said there will be many great prizes and they are hoping for at least 50 people to attend.
The night is sponsored by many area companies, including Maple Leaf Farms.
"Maple Leaf Farms has been a platinum sponsor for us," said Rice. "They have been really wonderful for us."
Other supporters include DePuy, Instant Copy, Explorer Van, Times-Union, Rice Ford Lincoln Mercury, Wagon Wheel Theatre, Edward Jones Investments, Lake City Bank, Warsaw Cut Glass, Biomet, Zimmer, Penguin Point, Just for Kids, John and Maria Tucker, Dr. and Mrs. Steve Hollar, Ramsey Railsback, Terry Armstrong and the Kosciusko Community YMCA.
In existence since 1987, WEF serves the more than 7,000 students and faculty of the Warsaw School Corp. by funding educational projects and activities that go beyond the normal charter of the school corporation. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided more than $175,000 to WCS classrooms to enhance teaching and learning.
For more information or tickets, call Beth Cramer, WEF executive director, at 574-269-7959, or Tricia Rice at 574-267-3581.
"If people are interested, there is still plenty of space to attend the event," said Rice.
