A mental health therapist at Warsaw Community Schools, who also serves as the varsity boys soccer head coach, was arrested late Sunday night for driving while intoxicated.
According to information from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department booking division, Warsaw Police Department officer Jeff Ticknor arrested Scott Henry Bauer, 51, of 100 Second St., Winona Lake, at the intersection of Parker and Center streets in Warsaw at 10:33 p.m.
According to the Warsaw Police Department, he refused a portable breathalyzer test, but when taken to Kosciusko County Jail, he submitted to a breathalyzer test and blew a .17, more than two times the legal limit in Indiana.
Bauer, a mental health therapist with WCS and the boys soccer coach, was booked into Kosciusko County Jail and held on a $550 bond.
He had bonded out by press time this morning.
According to human resources information on the school corporation’s website, exceptions to a progressive tiered disciplinary procedure can include arrest, with subsequent conviction.
School policy 3139, under staff discipline, states that those exceptions are “in cases where good practice demands immediate suspension or dismissal.”
While the Warsaw Police Department was the arresting agency, WPD didn’t provide any additional information regarding the arrest due to internal policy dictating that any request for information go through either the police chief or captain.
Warsaw Community School Corp. Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz didn’t comment on Bauer’s situation specifically but did give the Times-Union a comment.
“From a school corporation perspective, certainly we will be investigating this issue,” said Hintz. “Any time we have a teacher that has been arrested it’s unfortunate for our community and our corporation. As we learn more information, that will determine out decision in the future.”
