Warsaw Board Of Works Considers Equipment Purchase

The Warsaw Board of Works met Friday and during the meeting, the board:

• Opened bids from three companies regarding the purchase of a garbage truck and street sweeper. The item was postponed for further study. The award will be announced at the next BOW meeting.

• Heard the Esther Pfleiderer Charitable Trust awarded the Warsaw Police Department a grant of $4,200. The money will be used to purchase a second digital speedboard. The device flashes the speeds of passing motorists.

• Approved advertisement with the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau at a cost of $1,970 for a full-page ad.

• Approved a contract with the volunteer fire department in the amount of $22,000, up from $17,000 one year ago.

• Approved a $12,000 contract with the Warsaw Community Development Corp. Board member Jerry Patterson asked for a specific list of what the WCDC is doing to promote the downtown area. Mayor Ernie Wiggins said that could be arranged.

• Approved a request by Housing Opportunities of Warsaw to subordinate a loan as part of the owner-occupied rehabilitation program. The homeowners refinanced their first mortgage, included the second mortgage (HOW loan) for a total of $77,470. The house is appraised at $90,000.

• Approved an administrative fee schedule with Dunn and Associates regarding the employee benefit trust.

• Approved a payment of $309,798 to Indiana Construction/Corporate Construction Joint Venture for work at the second wastewater treatment plant. The release of $10,028 in the escrow account also was approved.

• Approved a transfer of job title for Anthony Leadford, who works at Oakwood Cemetery, from mechanic to foreman.

• Heard from Ed Snyder, whose work at the wastewater treatment plant was terminated, that there is no appeals process through the Board of Works for employment.

Board of works members are Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith.
