Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners approved an Airport Overlay District (AOD) draft Tuesday.
The intent of the AOD is to promote the public health, safety and general welfare and to limit the impacts of airport activity on the airport’s neighbors and to provide room for the airport to expand and grow, according to the draft.
Board President Dan Robinson said the AOD had been tabled from their Oct. 13 meeting because the commission members hadn’t had a chance to take a look at it and several members had questions at that time. During Tuesday’s meeting, Robinson asked commission members if they had any questions about the AOD at that point. No one did.
The board did talk about adding some information to the AOD for clarification.
Robinson brought up calculations in a table for the airport overlay zone dimensions.
Airport Manager Nick King said the calculations are how the inner and outer widths of all the different zones surrounding the runways are determined. The calculations were pulled from the CHA Consulting report, so CHA did the math behind the scenes based on the known altitudes of the different runway ends. CHA didn’t think that information needed to be included.
Bryan Stumpf, community development studio lead with HWC Engineering, said if they wanted to add the elevations at the end of the runways, they could do that as a footnote at the end of the table for reference for clarity.
After some discussion, it was agreed the different elevations would be added within the table. The board approved the AOD with that change.
Stumpf said the AOD will go to the Warsaw Planning Commission, Warsaw Common Council and Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission for approval.
In other business, the commission:
• Approved the contract with attorney Adam Turner to represent the commission.
• Approved for the airport to spend no more than $250 for “Trick-or-Treat at the Scairport,” which is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
King had asked if the board was OK with sponsoring the event as Jeremy Morrison, Morrison Aviation Services, was the one putting on the event. King wanted to purchase Halloween candy to give out to kids at one of the airplanes.
