Wagon Wheel Alumna Earns Tony Award Nomination

Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts is celebrating another major milestone as alumna Christiani Pitts has been nominated for a Tony Award.
Nominations were announced Tuesday, recognizing Pitts for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her role in “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).”
Local audiences may remember Pitts from her 2014 appearances on the Wagon Wheel stage, where she performed as Mrs. Corry in “Mary Poppins” and Electra in “Gypsy.”
Since its founding in 1956, Wagon Wheel has built a national reputation for identifying and hiring exceptional talent early in their careers, according to a news release from the theater. Many artists who take the stage in Warsaw go on to perform on Broadway, national tours and across film and television.
“It’s hard to even keep up these days,” said Sam Engle, communications and donor relations coordinator of Wagon Wheel. “I hope people across northern Indiana realize just how special and needed Wagon Wheel is in this community. We’re not just another entertainment venue. We’re bringing in some of the most exciting talent from across the country and producing work at a level that earns national recognition.”
Engle continued, “There are patrons who travel across the country to Warsaw every single summer just to see our shows. That says everything. Last year, an entertainment magazine described us perfectly with their headline: ‘The road to Broadway includes a stop at Wagon Wheel.’”
Tickets for Wagon Wheel’s upcoming summer season are available at wagonwheelcenter.org or by calling the Box Office at 574-267-8041.
