WABASH COUNTY – A juvenile from Laketon was killed after the vehicle they were a passenger in hit a tree.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police (ISP), shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the ISP and the Wabash County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) responded to an injury-involved crash on CR 700 West, just south of CR 850 North.
The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper Jeremy Perez revealed Jonathan T. Patton, 19, Laketon, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Caprice southbound on CR 700 West, south of CR 850 North. The Chevrolet left the roadway and collided with a tree, the release states.
A juvenile passenger was pronounced dead at the crash scene by the Wabash County Coroner's Office. Patton was flown by air to an area hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing. At this time, the consumption of intoxicants and excessive speed are suspected of contributing to this crash, the release states. The family of the deceased has been notified.
Perez was assisted at the scene by members of the ISP Peru District, WCSO, Roann Volunteer Fire Department, Wabash County EMA and the Wabash County Coroner’s Office.
