Former realtor and current Warsaw business owner Juergen Voss has filed for a Warsaw City Council at-large seat.
There are two at-large seats open in the May primary, and Voss is the third candidate to file for a seat. Elaine Call and Dewey Lawshe also have filed.
The at-large seats are currently held by Joe Thallemer, who is running for mayor, and Kyle Babcock.
Juergen has owned and managed Open Air Garden Center and Greenhouses, Warsaw, since 1986.
He previously served as a real estate agent in Warsaw from 1985-2009.
He served as the principal broker for Coldwell Banker Realty from 2001-2005. He also served as a broker at Century 21 and Prudential One Realty.
He previously ran in 1991 for the Warsaw City Council at large-seat, but was defeated.
He also served on the Warsaw Community School Board from 1985-1989, serving as secretary for two years, and vice president for one year. He also served as an Ivy Tech Community College board member.
Voss has been an active member of Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club since 1978, and has been a boat driver for Lake City Skiers since 2006.
He said he is running for the seat because he has always been interested in city government and public service.
"With my background in serving on the school board and being a manager at Open Air Garden Center, I feel I am well qualified to make hard decisions," Voss said.
He said he has lived in Warsaw since 1977, and said the city is a great place and needs to be preserved.Juergen said he is not a single-issue candidate, and he feels the budget and infrastructure are important.
"We have great departments that are running well and I give all of the past city council members a lot of credit for the good job they have done, and I would only hope to do as good as they did," Juergen said.
