Visit from Indianapolis May Reverse Early Weekday Closings for Winona Lake Post Office

Posted
WINONA LAKE – A visit from the Indianapolis district office for the Postal Service may restore a 15-minute cut in hours for the Winona Lake Post Office.
Postmaster Dan King in May had to begin closing the office at 4:45 p.m. on weekdays due to “operations constraints,” explaining this morning that he’s the only one in the office when the outgoing mail truck leaves at 5:05 p.m. and can’t close the service window at that time.
He said the early closing will have to stay in effect “’til something changes,” but said, “I don’t know how to answer that” when asked if the issue was a matter of staffing.
King noted that his staffing allotment may be reconsidered after a visit from the district office expected sometime this week.
Marion Postmaster Bob Goins, who spoke to Etna Green residents in April when their post office had its hours reduced for cost-cutting reasons, said Monday that to his knowledge the Winona Lake post office is not slated for closure or additional hourly reductions.
