A fifth-grade teacher from Washington Elementary School, Ann VanDuyne, has been named Warsaw Community Schools' Teacher of the Year. VanDuyne was chosen by the selection committee from three teachers who were nominated for this award.
"Ann VanDuyne is one of those special people who is truly interested in perfecting her teaching to get the best from her students," said Washington second-grade teacher, Ruth Casner. "She is a fine professional and a quality Christian lady.
Washington principal Thomas Eichenberg said, "During my seven years as principal of the building, Mrs. VanDuyne has continually impressed me with her teaching abilities and unique learning opportunities that she provides to her students. Students have stated that they have learned so much from the hands-on activities that are provided. Past students of Mrs. VanDuyne's still speak of the activities and the learning that occurred during their fifth-grade year. She is certainly a teacher of the year."
VanDuyne received her undergraduate degree from Grace College and her graduate degree from Indiana University. She began her teaching career as a fifth-grade teacher in 1980 with Tippecanoe Valley Schools. She has been a fifth-grade teacher with WCS since 1986.
VanDuyne will represent Warsaw Community Schools in the Indiana Teacher of the Year award. The winner will be announced in September.
