As a co-sponsor of the "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, the National Association of Letter Carriers and United Way of Kosciusko County salute the efforts of local supermarkets and businesses participating in the food drive.
On Saturday, local letter carriers will participate in the annual food drive to support the community. Place nonperishable food donations in plastic bags or boxes by your mailboxes. Local letter carriers or volunteers will collect the donations when mail is delivered. If you do not have mailboxes near your home, take donations to any local post office.
Marsh Supermarket and Owen's Supermarkets of Warsaw agreed to place food bins near their exits so customers can donate non-perishable items. Donations such as canned goods, cereal and rice were accepted from May 1-7. Food bins allow community members to pick up a few extra items and donate them every time they grocery shop.
Curves for Women ran a special discount for any new members joining May 1-7. New members will receive $100 off the registration fee if they bring in a bag of nonperishable food. Curves also ran a gift certificate raffle for current members who brought in three cans of food.
Last year approximately 12 tons of food were distributed to local food pantries including The Salvation Army, Combined Community Services, Mary & Jerry's Helping Hands and Our Father's House to help feed the hungry in Kosciusko County. The 12 tons provide approximately three months' food for the families in need in our community.
This year the goal is to collect 15 tons of nonperishable food to distribute to local food pantries.
United Way of Kosciusko County is proud to be a part of the effort to alleviate hunger in our community. As an organization committed to the life and vitality of Kosciusko County, United Way asks that you join the millions who will give across the nation and help "Stamp Out Hunger" in our communities.
