Two Candidates Seek Etna Green Clerk’s Job

Two Candidates Seek Etna Green Clerk’s JobTwo people have filed paperwork seeking to be the next clerk-treasurer of Etna Green.

They filed declarations of candidacy for the job  Monday afternoon about an hour apart, said Kosciusko County Republican Chairman  Mike Ragan.

The deadline for filing was noon Tuesday.

The two applicants are Patricia K. Cook, who lives on East High Street, and Amanda C. May Ewing, who lives on North Walnut Street.

The GOP caucus became necessary after longtime clerk-treasurer Laura Baker resigned in November.

Baker served for 23 years and never faced an opponent when seeking re-election to the office.

The caucus process is complicated by the fact there is only one precinct committeeman in the Etna precinct, Steve Sechrist.

Ragan said that according to procedure, when there is only one precinct committeeman available for a caucus, the party’s county chairman will make the appointment.

Ragan said he confered with Sechrist and will announce the appointment at noon Friday at the county clerk’s office in Warsaw.

This appointment will be effective Jan. 1, he said.
