AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley Middle School (TVMS) announced it has been awarded a $500 grant from the Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA).
Out of 69 applicants statewide, only two schools per district receive this honor, and Indiana is divided into 10 districts making this a competitive award, according to a news release from Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.
The grant, written by physical education teacher April Jones, will fund the purchase of recreational and leisure sports equipment for TVMS physical education classes. This is Jones’ second consecutive year receiving the IRTA grant. The goal of this project is to expand and diversify TVMS’ physical education program by introducing inclusive activities that promote physical activity, teamwork and lifelong wellness.
The new equipment will include cornhole boards, croquet sets, spikeball sets, horseshoes and ladder golf, providing students with opportunities to develop physical, mental and social skills.
The Indiana Retired Teachers Association supports educational initiatives that enrich student learning and foster community engagement.
