Turkey Creek FD Zoning Approved For New Station

Posted

Turkey Creek Fire Department is planning to build a new fire station.

Tuesday, the department petitioned the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals for an exception to allow the fire station on a residential tract of ground. The property is on the north side of McClintic Road and 100 feet west of Skyline Drive in Turkey Creek Township.

The BZA approved the petition as presented.

Not so lucky was Ron Jasper.

In 2002, he petitioned the BZA for a variance. On Tuesday, the BZA determined Jasper's petition was not different enough from the one he presented in 2002, and reaffirmed their decision made in 2002 to deny the variance.

The petition for a variance was to permit the construction of a 8-foot by 10- foot residence addition four feet from the water's edge and zero feet from the south property line, and to reconstruct a 3-foot overhang at 2 feet. The property is on the east side of Park Drive and 280 feet north of Walnut Drive in Turkey Creek Township.

Also denied was Dan and Amanda Harstine's petition for a variance to permit the construction of a residence 30 feet from the road right of way and 32 feet from the water's edge. The property is on the west side of George Street and 1,270 feet north of Ind. 13 in Turkey Creek Township.

Rob Smyjunos' petition for an exception to allow the change and alteration of a nonconforming use by allowing a 4-foot by 6-foot addition to an existing sign was denied. The sign is in an agricultural/residential district on the east side of CR 450E and zero feet north of Armstrong Road in Tippecanoe Township.

The BZA postponed two petitions until the Sept. 14 meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Justice Building meeting room.

The first was a petition for an exception by Kim Derf to allow a semi trailer to be used for a temporary storage building in an agricultural district. The property is on the east side of Peru Road and 1,200 feet north of CR 1300S in Lake Township.

The second was a petition by Rebecca Kelly for an exception to allow paintball games in an agricultural district. The property is on the north side of CR 1050N and zero feet west of CR 1000E in Turkey Creek Township.

Robert and Esther Kramer's petition for an exception to allow a bed and breakfast facility in existing structures in a residential district was approved. The property is on the east and west sides of Elm Grove Drive and 480 feet south of Black Point Road in Turkey Creek Township.

Members of the BZA are Walter Church, Bob Beer, Vic Virgil, Charlie Haffner and John Conley. They meet at 8:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of every month in the Justice Building meeting room, Warsaw.
