Tuesday Fire in Milford Displaces Family of Five

MILFORD – According to fire officials and the American Red Cross, a fire destroyed a home Tuesday in Milford leaving a mother and her four children without a home.

The fire started at an eight-unit apartment on Section Street where one of the tenants reportedly smelled smoke and called in the fire, according to Milford Fire Chief Todd Haines.

Firefighters discovered fire in the first-floor apartment in a bedroom that belonged to the single mother and her kids.

According to Haines, nobody was home at the time of the blaze.

Haines said the blaze was limited to that family's apartment and didn’t damage any other apartments.

The fire was deemed a total loss.

The American Red Cross of Kosciusko County helped the family with food and clothing as well as shelter.

While the fire remains under investigation, Haines said he believed it was accidental.
