A South Bend man is in critical condition after crashing his semi tractor-trailer west of Warsaw on Saturday afternoon.
James E. Lancaster, 57, South Bend, was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after having a heart attack while driving west on U.S. 30.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies and emergency responders were dispatched Saturday at 3:47 p.m. to a semi tractor-trailer crash along U.S. 30 near CR 350W.
Officers arrived to find that a semi tractor-trailer, driven by Lancaster, had been traveling westbound on U.S. 30 near the abandoned rest park when it veered across all four lanes and came to a stop against a fenced tree-line area.
Deputies stated that passer-by citizens had stopped after witnessing the crash and began to perform CPR on the driver of the truck.
Lancaster was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital and later airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, in critical condition.
Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigators stated that Lancaster had called his wife approximately two hours prior to the crash and stated he was having chest pains.
Lancaster was still listed in very critical condition at 8 a.m. today, according to Lutheran Hospital officials, but had awakened slightly in the past 24 hours.
