'Tropical Paradise' Theme of This Year's Mentone Fest

This year Tim Croy has the honor of being Grand Marshal of the parade at this year’s Mentone Egg Festival.
Mentone kicks off the festival Thursday at 5 p.m. when the flea market opens with crafts, food vendors and kids area, all uptown.
The Bell Memorial Library will have a book and video sale all weekend from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m. the first night comes to a close as Spike and the Bulldogs takes the stage at the fire station, in memory of Russell and Leona Eber.
Friday begins with the Bell Museum Tent opening at 11 a.m. serving pork sandwiches and pie until 7 p.m.
At 4 p.m. the kids area with attraction from Extreme Fun will open and remain open until 10 p.m.
The 19th annual Egg Festival Car, Truck, Tractor and Motorcycle show will take place at 4 p.m. uptown.
Starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. 50’s and 60’s music will play, and the 50-50 drawing will take place.
Saturday starts early in the morning with an egg breakfast from the Boy Scouts at 7 a.m. followed by Kids Games.
At 8 a.m. the Egg City 5K Run begins at the fire station.
The Extreme Fun kids area opens again at 9 a.m. along with flea markets, crafts, food stands and garage sales, all located uptown.
3 on 3 Basketball with Bill Patrick begins at 9 a.m. at the Mentone Gym.
Parade entries will be judged at 10 a.m. at the parade line-up site, followed by the parade at 11 a.m. led by Parade Marshal Tim Croy.
Another round of 3 on 3 basketball will take place at 12 p.m. at the Mentone Gym.
The Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster Contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the fire station.
At 1 p.m. the Northern Indiana Pullers will have a garden tractor pull and weigh-in at the park. Also at 1 p.m. there will be kids games located at the stage.
The Third Annual Corn Hole Tournament will take place at 1:30 p.m., the same time that the Kidde Tractor Pull runs at the car lot next to the stage.
The Northern Indiana Pullers are at it again at 2 p.m. with another garden tractor pull.
At 2:30 p.m. an egg toss will be held on the stage.
The Great Egg Nest Race at the corner of Jackson and Tucker Street will be held at 4 p.m. and is sponsored by Midwest Poultry.
A Sentimental Journey Band will take the stage at 5:50 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m. a cakewalk will also take place.
At 7 p.m. the winners of the Cute Baby Contest will be announced, followed by the crowning of Miss Mentone at 7:15 p.m.
A variety show featuring the Stovepipe Holler will conclude the evening and the weekend on the stage.
