MARSHALL COUNTY - A Triton High School senior lost her life early Saturday in a one-vehicle accident.
Sarah Beth King, 18, Tippecanoe, was driving in a 2002 Pontiac traveling on Elm Road, south of 14th Road, in Marshall County, when her vehicle went off the road and collided with a tree.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Marshall County Coroner Bill Clevenger.
Speed was believed to be a factor in the crash. Weather conditions also may have played a role.
Alcohol was found in the vehicle and toxicology results are pending.
The Bourbon Police Department, the Bourbon Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS, Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Marshall County Coroner's Office, Tippecanoe EMS and Tippecanoe Fire Departments were all at the scene.
King, a senior at Triton High School, was a member of the school's ICE program, which is the school's co-op program. She worked at Triton Elementary School doing administrative work and was a teacher's aide.
"Obviously, she's going to be deeply missed by our staff and students," said Triton High School Counselor Hugh Rettinger. "She was kind of a quiet girl but had a close network of friends."
Rettinger said she was interested in working in a business-related field after high school and was considering going to college.
Grief counseling has been made available for students.
Calling for King is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bourbon First United Methodist Church.
