A silent auction during the 2015 Kettleheads Homebrew Fest June 27 will increase the amount of proceeds going to Combined Community Services. But bidders don’t have to wait for the beer tasting event to bid on any of the items they want – the auction is already live online at https://galabid.com/auction/homebrew15 “It’s our big fundraiser,” said CCS Executive Director Steve Possell of the Fest. “I think it will be a big, fun event,” said Jennifer Weaver, CCS Board of Directors member. The Fest replaces the Blue Jeans & BBQ fundraiser, he said. Items up for bid include a Marco Island vacation and cruise, helicopter flight to Cerulean in Indianapolis, NASCAR VIP experience at Chicagoland Speedway, Cult Winemakers VIP access, Costa Rica getaway, New York long weekend, Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Discover Chicago dining, classic Wrigley Field rooftop experience, Colorado Micro Brewery tour, a pink topaz and diamond pendant by Chapman Jewelers, an airplane ride, a $250 YMCA gift certificate, auto detailing service, birthday pool party with cake, photo session with Framed Portrait, four rounds of golf at Stonehenge, Wawasee High School all-sports pass for the 2015-16 season, Joy Jungle birthday party and a family fun pack for six at The Bowling Alley. “We’re still working on the descriptions for some of these” on the auction site, Weaver said. “There are some amazing auction items,” Possell said. Bidders do not need to be present at the June 27 event to win, he said. iPads will be at the event for people to bid on items if they can’t do it on their smartphone. Possell said many board members, CCS employees and volunteers will be working the event that the Kettleheads have graciously put on to benefit CCS. He said it costs a lot to do the many programs at CCS and funding from the federal government was cut. But CCS continues to serve a growing list of clients. All staff at the organization work with clients, and there is no marketing or human resources departments. “We do have a lot of volunteers,” Weaver said. If the auction items sell for what they’re worth, Possell said CCS can benefit really well from it. “If we can make $30,000 (from the auction), that will go a long way,” he said. The Homebrew Fest starts at 6 p.m. general admission, with tasting ending at 9 p.m. June 27 at The Garden, 1101 E. Canal St., Winona Lake, by Cerulean. Tickets are $25, with a limited amount of VIP tickets for $45. Tickets may be purchased online at www.gardenwinona.com/events This year’s event will feature around 50 original brews, a food buffet by Cerulean for an additional cost, the auction and a raffle. “It’s going to be a fun event,” Weaver said. Kosciusko Kettleheads was formed in 2010. Their meetings are open to the public, and there are no membership dues. The club meets at 3 p.m. on the second Sunday of every month at Mad Anthony’s Lake City Taphouse, Warsaw. The motto of the Kosciusko Kettleheads is “Brew Good, Do Good.” The Kosciusko Kettleheads website is at www.kettleheads.org
