A man accused of beating a woman unconcious during an argument over a laundry machine at Jellystone Campground in September has had his jury trial continued until August.
The defense for Michael P. Zimny, 54, Glenwood, Ill., appeared on his behalf Monday morning at a pre-trial conference and moved to continue his jury trial – originally scheduled for April 1 and 2 – until Aug. 19 and 20 at 9 a.m. The motion was granted.
A final pre-trial conference has been set for June 30 at 8:30 a.m.
According to the original affidavit filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, multi-township EMS was dispatched around 11 a.m. Sept. 1 to Jellystone Campground for a report of a female being seriously injured. Police spoke with the victim’s mother, who said her daughter had gone to the laundry facility around 10:30 a.m. and returned shortly after, saying a “guy just bashed my head into the dryer.”
Before losing consciousness, the victim told her mother Zimny had asked if she “was a (expletive) man or a (expletive) woman.” After she informed Zimny she was a woman, he threatened to return with a woman to “finish the job.”
Police located Zimny at his campsite with his wife and daughter. They told officers they had problems in the past with people taking their clothes from the dryers and had gone to the laundry facility after Zimny returned to confront the victim, who they thought was a thief.
