Toys, Shoppers, Donations Needed For Annual Toy Sale

Posted
Preparations are underway for the 12th annual Toy Consignment Sale Saturday and Sunday.

Ami Pitt, one of the sale's organizers, said the public is invited to drop off toys to sell at the Home and Family Arts building at the Kosciusko County Fair Grounds, Warsaw, today through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., and also on Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.Sale staff will price all the toys collected. Toy owners will receive 60 percent of the price of toys sold. Sale staff will use the other 40 percent to buy new toys for the Combined Community Services toy giveaway Dec. 18-19.

Pitt said the sale is a win-win for consignors.

"You make room in your toy box, earn 60 percent and help local children," she said.

Last year, Pitt said, the sale featured 5,000 toys and 40 percent of the proceeds were used to buy new toys for more than 1,500 children in need.

Pitt said no broken or dirty toys are accepted for the sale. She said the sale is a good opportunity to find Christmas gifts at good prices. A pre-sale for those who contributed toys for the sale will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. The sale will be open to the public Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sale organizers also are seeking monetary donations from area businesses and individuals to help purchase toys for the giveaway. Pitt said she expects the need for toys to be greater this year based on indications from local agencies involved in helping families during the holidays.

"I think there's going to be a huge need this year," Pitt said.
