Tippy Valley Announces Wind Turbine Parts Delivery

Posted
AKRON – Delivery of the components of the 900 kW wind turbine to be installed on the campus of Tippecanoe Valley High School and Middle School is set to begin Tuesday when two 100-ton hydraulic cranes arrive in preparation to receive the first of three shipments.

The transport firm had advised that three deliveries will occur the afternoon of Tuesday. The remaining four deliveries will occur Wednesday.

Delivery of the components was recently moved to early October. Delivery has returned to the original September delivery dates because the components, shipped from the German manufacturer in specialty trailers, are needed back in Germany. The trailers are specially made to transport wind turbine components specific to the manufacturer.

The exact start date for the process of erecting the wind turbine has yet to be established.

Members of the public are invited to view the arrival and assembly of the wind turbine. Parking and viewing areas have been designated for viewer safety and to maintain traffic flow.

Viewers are asked to park in the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Valley High School’s north parking area, directly across from the concession, restroom, and ticket facility that also serves as the north entrance to the football field.

To reach the viewing area, the public must pass through the gate entrance to the baseball field and walk directly west.  The entrance will be marked “Wind Turbine Viewing Area”. The viewing area will be roped off and bleacher seating will be available. For viewer safety, no one will be allowed beyond the designated area.
