Tippecanoe Valley Welcomes Three New High School Teachers

MENTONE - Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation's Board of Trustees was introduced to three new Tippecanoe Valley High School employees during its meeting Monday.
TVHS Principal Brandon Kresca introduced the board to Amelia Hedges, Alex Light and LJ Weems.
Hedges will be the business and work-based learning teacher moving forward. She is from North Manchester. Hedges has experience teaching at the Warsaw Area Career Center and the Warsaw YMCA.
Light will be a math and computer science teacher. He is also going to be the head baseball coach moving forward. He attended Warsaw Community High School and Indiana Tech and excelled as a baseball player at both schools.
Weems will be the health and physical education teacher, as well as the varsity football running back coach, moving forward. He is from Indianapolis and attended college at Indiana Wesleyan University. He most recently was a teacher at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Fort Wayne.
Other Business
• Mike Harkness, senior project engineer at Jones and Henry Engineers, presented findings from the recently completed, four-month evaluation of the school system’s water treatment plant. They found issues with the bar screen, one of the skimmers and determined the plant needs a backup generator, among other issues. This facility was built in “2001/2002," according to Harkness. Superintendent Blaine Conley said that since the facility is at the end of its life, “decisions need to be made.”
• The administrative side of the new administration and daycare building was approved by the fire marshal for employees to begin working at the location. The daycare side of the building should be completed within the next two weeks.
• Zimmer Biomet donated $600 from the Blackbaud Fund.
• The Troy Murphy Memorial Fund donated $700 through the Kosciusko County Community Foundation for life skills class.
