The Tippecanoe Valley 4-H forestry team competed in the national contest in Weston, W.Va., at Jacksons Mills State 4-H Camp July 20-24.
The team earned the trip by winning the state contest last December. The team members had to do timber cruising for board feet, timber stand improvement team activity, take a written test on forestry management, compass and pacing, competed in quiz bowl, identification of both deciduous and confer species, as well as insects and diseases, according to a news release from Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.
The team competed great and ended up the seventh-place high team. Lillian Dunbar was the 11th high individual. The team is coached by Michael Jones, 4-H volunteer. This same team also won the FFA state forestry contest in May and will compete at the National FFA Convention Contest at the end of October.
