WHEELING, W.Va. -ÊA local man was among five people killed in a plane crash Sunday in West Virginia.
Tom Hollar, of Tippecanoe Lake, was a passenger on the plane that went down sometime after 11 p.m. Sunday.
The single-engine Piper PA32 left Terre Haute Sunday morning and flew to Kankakee, Ill. From the Greater Kankakee Airport, the plane was on its way to Wheeling, W.Va.
The plane's last communication was with air traffic controllers from Pittsburgh at 11:02 p.m. The plane went down in a wooded area and was not found until approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday near the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport.
Other passengers on the plane were affiliated with Commercial Packaging Inc. Founder and president Gary Egbers, sales executive Mark Long and account specialist Tracy Gibson, all of Illinois, were killed in the crash as well.
Hollar was an employee of Smurfit Stone Container Corp., a partner of Commercial Packaging Inc. He and the other passengers were going to West Virginia on a business trip.
The plane's pilot also died in the crash, but his name has not been released pending family notification.
No cause has been determined for the crash, and the incident is being investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
