Tigers Tennis Takes 8th Straight Sectional TitleHost Warsaw won its eighth consecutive boys tennis sectional tournament, and 32nd overall, Saturday with a not-as-easy-as-it-looked 5-0 win over Wawasee.
Three of the five matches went to the three-set limit. At No. 2 singles, Trey Williams came back from a set down and needed a tiebreaker to down the Warriors’ Holden Babb 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). In the No. 1 doubles match, the Tigers’ Will Boren and Michael Ray won a tight third set to pull out a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win over Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut.
At No. 1 singles, Caleb Williams took a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win over Zach Leedy.
The remaining two matches were won handily, with Hayden Anderson won at No. 3 singles over Devon Kuhn and the No. 2 doubles team of Carter Schuh and Cole Rhodes beat Zeke Keim and Colin Rhoades; both matches were scored 6-1, 6-1.
Warsaw moves on to the Culver Academies regional, where it will face Peru at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The other regional semifinal has the host Eagles and Bremen. The regional title match is set for Wednesday.
