After entering the basement, they noticed the odor coming from an area in the basement. Shortly thereafter the basement was in flames.
The family dogs were removed from the home and 911 was called.
Smoke was visible when the fire department arrived.
Firefighters entered the home where flames had spread from the basement to the first level. The fire was under control in approximately 17 minutes.
Damage to the home and contents is estimated at approximately $105,000, and the fire is still under investigation.
The Warsaw Fire Department was assisted by the Winona Lake Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS and the American Red Cross.
