CHURUBUSCO - Thomas L. Bare, 56, of Warsaw, and formerly of Noble County, near Merriam, died at 2 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, after suffering an apparent heart attack in his residence.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1952, in Indianapolis, to Charles Thomas and Florence Mead Bare.
He graduated from New Haven High School in 1972, and served in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his adult life in the Merriam area before moving to Kosciusko County in the last several years. He owned and operated Bare's Gas & Grocery, Merriam; worked at Dana Weatherhead, Columbia City; and for the past several years was a machinist at Zimmer Inc., Warsaw.
Surviving are six children: Bille Jo Bare, New Haven; Sarah (and spouse Jeff) Hoffman and Joan (and spouse Jason) Thomas, all of LaOtto; Benjamin T. Bare, Churubusco; Bill (and spouse Bettina) Bryan, Avilla; and Charlotte (and spouse Jon) Mosier, Columbia City; five sisters: Charla (and spouse Cliff) Bitting, Albion; Doddie (and spouse Tony) Hart, Churubusco; Mindy Wert, Merriam: Libby Sherman, Summerfield, Fla.; and Donita (and spouse James) Marlow, Albion; four brothers: Charles G. "Ted" Bare (and fiancee Deborah), Indianapolis; Rick (and spouse Alicia) Sherman, Columbia City; Todd (and spouse Joyce) Sherman; Churubusco; and Chad Sherman, Wolf Lake; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco, with the Rev. George Cecil officiating. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
