A Warsaw restaurant that has been open for only a couple of months sustained nearly $1 million in damages early Sunday morning.
Police and fire crews were dispatched to the business, located in the Fifteen Commons, at 376 Enterprise Drive, Warsaw, around 4:08 a.m. Sunday.According to a press release from the Warsaw Fire Department, the fire took about 30 minutes to get under control.
There also was damage to Warsaw Tanning Company and Angelina's Cigars.
The fire remains under investigation, though it is being described as "suspicious in nature" by the Warsaw Police Department.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms officials were at the scene Sunday morning and are assisting with the investigation.
On Aug. 28, Tascas owner Jose Espinoza, Warsaw, filed a fraud report with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
Espinoza claimed he hired Larry Surisi, who owns restaurants in Culver, to help him open Tascas.
Espinoza told police he agreed to pay Surisi $140,000 for a two-year work agreement, though Surisi allegedly back out of the deal and allegedly used a credit card belonging to Espinoza to buy equipment for his own restaurant.
No litigation or charges have been filed with regard to Espinoza's allegations against Surisi.
Espinoza, who was out of the country at the time of the fire, was unavailable for comment as of this morning.
Winona Lake, Leesburg, Pierceton and Claypool fire crews assisted Warsaw at the scene.
