AKRON - "The Sound of Music" is Tippecanoe Valley High School's spring musical.
The production will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 23-26 in the TVHS lecture room. Tickets are $5. There are a limited number of tickets left for Friday and Saturday performances.
The well-known play takes place about 1935 and is about an Austrian family and their escape from Nazi control. What most people do not know, according to director Dale Pace, is that it is based on a true story.
More than 50 Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. students are involved in the cast and crew for the production, from grades one to 12.
Playing the lead, Maria, is Kelly Heinhold, with Matt Sitts as the male lead, Capt. Von Trapp. The Von Trapp children include Stephanie Buss as Liesl, Le'Eric Bowser as Friedrich, Megan Merley as Louisa, Adriann Negreros as Kurt, Eden Shewman as Brigitta, Whitney Reed as Marta and Tenaya Shull as Gretl. Playing Mother Abbess is Erin Weaver and rounding out the main cast of characters is Camron Parker as Rolf and Heather Baker as Elsa.
Pace said he chose the play because, "It was my choice. It was a show I directed two other times in my career." He said it's a good family production with well-known music such as the songs "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Climb Every Mountain" and the title song "The Sound of Music."
Rehearsals started the first week of February, four nights a week for 10 weeks.
Pace is assisted by Tana Tinkey, Deb Burch and his wife, Patty Pace.
