WINONA LAKE – The Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams will host three new fall events: a tree identification hike, a seed collecting workshop and a bird identification event.
Tickets for all these events are free, but there are limited spaces available. All the events can be found with details on the Lilly Center’s website at lakes.grace.edu/events
Expedition: Fall Tree ID Hike
Learn how to identify trees while going on a scenic walk through nature. Observe the changing leaves and familiarize yourself with details about specific trees that separate them from other species. This hike is led by Dr. Nate Bosch, who can expertly identify trees, and it is done in collaboration with the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation.
Date: Oct. 11, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
No RSVP is necessary.
Workshop: Seed Collecting
Learn how to gather and collect native seeds so they can be stored for the upcoming winter. This event is led by Jacob Macke, the owner of Chapman Lake Nursery, who will lead participants through the Lilly Center landscaping to collect the seeds. Enjoy the seed collecting adventure.
Date: Oct. 25, 10-11:30 a.m.

Workshop: Winter Bird Identification
Learn how to use the basic methods and tools used to observe and identify birds. Understand how bird populations change based on the season, and where you are most likely to find certain birds during the winter months. The speakers at this event are Suzanne Beyeler and Dave Hicks, an associate professor of biology and environmental science at the Indiana Institute of Technology, and an associate professor emeritus at Manchester University respectively. This event is for beginners, so no prior birding knowledge is necessary.

As the leaves begin to change, the air becomes brisk, and pumpkin spice seasonings begin to take over the food and drink industry, autumn gives us a lot to look forward to. All the previously mentioned events, which are related to the season, give you a few more things to look forward to. If you love nature and the outdoors, join the Lilly Center this fall. Each one of their events provides educational value while prioritizing enjoyment, the news release states. Be sure to add our events to your calendar, and RSVP to secure your spot before each space is filled.
