A Warsaw teen killed in a crash Dec. 26 tested positive for marijuana, according to toxicology reports released today.
James Wayne Popenfoose, 18, Chapman Lake Drive, died of massive chest and neck injuries when his car hit a traffic barrier.
Kosciusko County Deputy Coroner John Sadler said the test indicates a positive or negative presence for marijuana; it does not indicate the level of the drug in the victim's blood at the time of death, he said.
It can take 24-36 hours, sometimes longer, for indicators to be out of the bloodstream, Sadler said.
Three other passengers were injured in the accident: Joshua T. Boren, 19, Winona Lake; Stephan D. Brickle, Columbia City; and Jacob R. Gilmer, 18, Winona Lake.
