People will have the chance to sleep in tents on the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn to experience homelessness for a night.
Fellowship Missions is holding the "tent city" in Warsaw to raise awareness about homelessness.
The event is from 7 p.m. Sept. 24 to 8 a.m. Sept. 25.
It is the second year for the event in Warsaw.
People are encouraged to pitch tents on the courthouse lawn, sleep in cardboard boxes or sleeping bags. Participants are allowed to bring food and beverages, but can fast and pray if they choose.
The Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association and New Life Christian Church and World Outreach put the tent city on last year at the courthouse.
There were 200 people, including Grace College students and community members, who slept in tents and cardboard boxes to raise awareness about homelessness during last year's event.
"Tent city is one night for people to raise awareness about homelessness and show that it is a problem in our community," said John Lowe, New Life Christian Church and World Outreach pastor.
"Those who participate spend one night being homeless, but imagine being homeless for a year."
Fellowship Missions is working to again bring a homeless shelter to Warsaw. It is set to open Oct. 1. It will be the third year for the Refuge Shelter.
The organization is still looking for a building to house a permanent shelter.
The shelter has previously been housed at New Life Christian Church and World Outreach, Salvation Army, Warsaw Community Church and Christ's Covenant Church.
Eric Lane, Fellowship Missions founder, started the organization in May. He said the purpose is to reach out to the hurting homeless and broken people in the community.
Lane said he participated in last year's tent city and slept on the courthouse lawn."Anyone and everyone is invited to attend the tent city to bring awareness to homelessness," Lane said.
Fellowship Missions has a home in Warsaw that houses homeless men, and also assists women and families.
Fellowship Missions also offers "The Gathering" the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at Center Lake Pavilion for the past three months.
In October, The Gathering will be the second and third Wednesday of the month at Center Lake Pavilion from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Gathering provides a free meal to those who otherwise would not be able to afford it.
