A teenage campout turned into a drug-fueled tragedy late last month. Korbin Foster and Kaleb Lampkin, both 17, were found drowned in a pond May 30. Foster’s body was recovered and reported by Austin Lampkin, a relative, prompting the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department to send Kosciusko County Dive Team into the pond behind the Lampkin residence, 2028 S. Maple Run, Warsaw. The Dive Team retrieved the body of the already deceased Lampkin. Deangello Granados, 18, was the third teen who spent the evening at the Lampkin residence. He was taken to Kosciusko County Hospital at 2 a.m. that day after ingesting acid. A KCSD detective interviewed Granados, who had been at Lampkin’s house with Lampkin and Foster. Granados said that all three of them had discussed taking acid that evening. Once Lampkin’s mother went to bed, the three contacted another classmate, a minor who has now been arrested, and asked him to bring over the drug. According to Granados’ statement in a KCSD report on the incident, the classmate came to the residence by himself, sold the three $80 worth of acid, stayed roughly 15 minutes and then left. Granados said that as the acid trip started, he started seeing colors while the other two boys kept saying, “What’s going on, what’s going on?” Granados only remembers the three of them climbing into a tent together and then waking up in KCH, according to the report. The arrested classmate provided a different version of the story. He has said that he went with one other juvenile – also arrested since the incident – to Freedom Lane, Leesburg, and allegedly bought an unknown substance, which authorities have determined was acid. He says that he did not know what he was buying. He then went to the Lampkin residence with the unknown other person who sold acid to the three, and they then left. He denied knowing what the three were doing or what the other juvenile had sold them. He said that he does not know why Granados’ story differs from his own. The situation is still being investigated and authorities are seeking the provider of the acid.
